Rose Staples, genealogist, New Brunswick Loyalist and pre-Loyalist ancestors
Maple Ridge, New Brunswick

Rose Staples UE PLCGS, made her first visit to the archives 30 years ago when she accompanied her mother while she was planning a school reunion. It was there that she viewed her ancestor’s family grouping in the 1861 census for the very first time. From the years 1982-2006 she raised 4 children who have all gone on to attain university degrees. In 1998 she began researching her own New Brunswick ancestors at the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick. She soon discovered her love for research and her desire to help others research their own family history.
In 1999 she began taking courses with the National Institute for Genealogical Studies (distance learning through the University of Toronto) and has completed her Advanced Certification for Canadian Research and Methodology.
Her primary area of research has been focused on pre-loyalist and loyalist information within New Brunswick. She has done extensive research utilizing the Loyalist Collection held at the University of New Brunswick and the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick. She also has experience with research at the Nova Scotia Archives and the Archives for the State of Maine along with local libraries in the Fredericton area.
Since 2008 she has taught a 6 week “beginner’s workshop” for those interested in starting a research project to find information on their New Brunswick ancestors. This course is offered through the No Limits Program with the College of Extended Learning at the University of New Brunswick.
In July of 2008 Rose was a guest speaker at the Dominion Conference of the United Loyalist Empire Loyalists’ Association of Canada Conference that was held in St. John, NB where she gave a talk about The Loyalist Genealogical Resources of the Public Archives of New Brunswick and the Loyalist Collection at the University of New Brunswick. She also attended the Academic Conference at the University of Maine in Orono in June of 2009. This conference covered the topic “Loyalism and the Revolutionary Atlantic World”.
Rose is a member of the New Brunswick Genealogy Society, The United Empire Loyalist Association of Canada (New Brunswick Branch), and The New England Genealogy Society and the Fredericton Branch of the St. Andrews Society.
If you have interest in hiring a researcher please send a summary of the work you have already completed and what your goals are. I have eleven years of research experience with the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick and with the Loyalist Collection at the University of New Brunswick Library.
